The pile side blade tang is stamped

"[logo] 1938".

The spike is stamped "597373" on the mark side and "16" on the pile side.

This knife is identical to that shown in Flook Plate 305 (page 134) except that it has a different

"inspection mark".

Maker: "GEORGE WOSTENHOLM SHEFFIELD ENGLAND" stamped on the blade tang.

I*XL stamped on blade face.

The spike has the Canadian acceptance mark of a "broad arrow" 1 pheon inside the letter C.

This knife is identical to that shown in Flook Plate 452 (page 191). Scales have some marking see photos

The pile side blade tang is stamped

"1938".

The spike is stamped "'" on the pile side tang.

This knife is identical to that shown in Flook Plate 305 (page 134).

Maker: "THOMAS WILSON SHEFFIELD" is stamped on the mark side tang. It has a closed length of 4 5/8 inches, hard wood scales, integral steel liners and bolsters, and hand-forged tapered backspring. The butt end is factory-drilled for a lanyard.

Tweedale has an entry for Thomas Wilson which indicates that "the business apparently began in 1889"

Maker: Joseph Rodgers & Sons. The mark side blade face is stamped "FOR NEW ENGLAND WHALERS" and the tang is stamped "RODGERS CUTLERS TO HER MAJESTY". The pile side tang is stamped with the * + trademark. It has a closed length of 3 ½ inches, stag horn scales and non-integral steel liners and bolsters.

British royal naval clasp knife. Alloy scales marked with F Stanton good snap some sharpening marks to blade  pre ww2. One of the rarer ap301s.

Maker: "E. BARNES SHEFFIELD". There is also evidence of a small 1 stamped adjacent to the maker's name; the tin opener is stamped with a W 1 D, however both stampings are of questionable legitimacy

Maker: Michael Hunter Sheffield

Closed length: 4 5/8"

Tang mark side: HUNTER

SHEFFIELD. Copper shackle and brass pin.

blade sits low in body making it harder to get out.
need good finger nails.

Maker: "ATKINSON BROTHERS SHEFFIELD" is stamped on the mark side tang, and the pile side tang is stamped "WiD 18" in an unusually small type size. The knife a closed length of 4 ¾ inches, stag horn scales, integral steel liners and bolsters, hand-forged tapered backspring, and copper shackle secured by a brass pin.

The mark side scale has been incised with a service number that is somewhat obscured.

Maker: " BUCK & HICKMAN LIMITED LONDON" is stamped on the mark side tang.

It has a closed length of 4 5/8 inches, stag horn scales, non-integral steel liners, nickel silver bolsters, and a steel shackle and pin.

Ron Flook in his "The London Knife Book"i notes that the company had been in business in London from at least 1839 and were operating as "saw and tool makers".

The style of the knife, such as the nickle silver bolsters, suggests a date of early - to mid-20th century. It is also possible that the knife was made in Sheffield for Buck & Hickman.

Maker: "CLARK SHIRLEY & Co.

SHEFFIELD" is stamped on the mark side tang, and "WiD 5" is stamped on the pile side tang which indicates that it was a military issue knife. The knife has a closed length of 4 ¾ inches, stag horn scales, integral steel liners and bolsters, hand-forged tapered backspring, and copper shackle secured by a brass pin.

W/|\D marking would normally associate it to being issued to British army and not Royal Navy

Maker: George Wolstenholm & Son. The mark side tang is stamped I*XL GEORGE WOSRENHOLM & SON" over four lines. It has a closed length of 4 ¼ inches, hard wood scales, non-integral steel liners and nickel silver bolsters. The butt end is factory-drilled for a lanyard.

Maker: "JOSEPH TARRATT & SONS" is stamped on the mark side tang in a very small font size. It has a closed length of 4 ½ inches, stag horn scales, integral steel liners and bolsters, and hand-forged tapered backspring. The butt end is drilled for a lanyard. The blade has lost 40% to 50% of its profile due to wear and sharpening however most likely started out as a sheepfoot blade with a more gentle slope to the point (with similarities to the Wharncliffe style blade)". Tweedale makes no mention of the maker and neith does Flook in "The London Knife Book"

". No other details have been discovered

Maker: " BUCK & HICKMAN LIMITED LONDON" is stamped on the mark side tang.

It has a closed length of 4 5/8 inches, stag horn scales, non-integral steel liners, nickel silver bolsters, and a steel shackle and pin.

Maker: not stated, although the mark side scale is embossed with the 'kettle' trademark which belonged to "JOSEPH HAYWOOD & Co", "... which had been granted in 1860' (Tweedale). This mark, in a simpler form, had been owned by Geo.

Hinchliffe who was the uncle of Joseph Haywood and by 1850 "Haywood owned the name" (Tweedale) and presumably the

'Kettle' trademark also. There is no stamping of any type on the blade which was common in the mid-1800s. It has a closed length of 4 5/8 inches, polished buffalo horn scales, integral steel liners and bolsters, and a hand-forged tapered backspring. The blade has lost much of its original profile due to use and sharpening however there is no doubt that it was originally a sheep foot blade

knife is lacking snap though stays open and closed.

Maker: if there was ever a

Maker:

"CAMERON & Co. MADE IN ENGLAND" is stamped on the mark side tang of the blade.

Moulded bexoid scales and steel shackle.

Tweedale has no mention of Cameron & Co., and it is interesting that the stamping is "Made in England" with no mention of Sheffield

Lots of military dealers describe these as ww2 commando knives to achieve high prices but in fact a electrician knife made for governments atomic energy authority

Maker: "H. ROWBOTHAM & Co.

(SHEFFIELD) Ltd". Post-WW2

"Electrician Knife" made for the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority with

U.K.A.E.A. stamped on the main blade.

Maker: The mark

side tang is stamped with what appears to be a trademark

"PREMIER LIFE

TIME

SHEFFIELD

ENGLAND" and the pile side tang is stamped "53K

SHEFFIELD

ENGLAND". The knife has jigged and dyed bone scales, brass liners, nickel silver scales and pins, and a steel shackle.

There appears to be no mention of any of these marks in Tweedale. Ron

Flook, in his recently self-published book Knives and Daggers of the SOE includes a photo (page 23) of a very similar knife captioned "(2.13)

Possible model for Knife, Dagger, Jack", with the suggestion that "it is possible these reflect the type of commercial knife first used.

If this is correct this would be a post-WW2 made knife. It has bexoid (or similar) scales, nickel silver bolsters and pins, and steel shackle.

Tweedale notes that

"A. Wright & Sons was established in 1947 at Midland Works," and that "It continued to sell pocket knives in 2022"
