Horseman 1860-70

£110.00

Maker: "WELLS 431 STRAND" stamped on the tangs of all blades. This knife is of a similar style to the above knife, having a closed length of 4¼ inches (10.9cm) and, more significantly, it has a marline spike instead of the hoof pick.

Flook's "TLKB" entry for "WELLS, BENJAMIN BLAKE" states that he was a "Cutler and Desk and Dressing Case maker" at both 431

STRAND and various other addresses between c. 1850 to c. 1912. It is conceivable that this WELLS knife was made for them in Sheffield by Mappin Brothers or Joseph Rodgers, and dates c. 1860 - 1870
