STRINGER SHEFFIELD Penknife

£50.00

Maker: "STRINGER [logo]" stamped on the face of the main blade and "STRINGER SHEFFIELD" stamped on the mark side tang. It has a closed length of 3 ½ inches (8.9cm), cow horn scales, iron liners and nickel silver pins. Tweedale's Directory notes that the Stringer family were active in the cutlery trade "since at least 1774", however it appears that the distinctive logo (as stamped on the blade) was acquired by other makers and used well into the 20th century. Based on the style of the knife, it is probably that the knife dates circa late-19th century to circa early-20th century.
