This knife is obviously made for purpose, having the blade stamped PLUMBER KNIFE. It has stag scales, a length of 4 1/8 inches closed, integral iron liners and bolsters, a round butt, and the blade and spring are 3/16 inch thick. The stamp on the mark side tang is JOHN PETTY & SONS SHEFFIELD over 3 lines. This stamping is consistent with John Petty knives made in the 1860s to 1880s.

Condition: Excellent

Description: The blade face was stamped with the Humphreys Radiant lamp trade mark however now it is barely discernible. The mark side tang is stamped “HUMPHRIES RADIANT SHEFFIELD”, and the pile side is stamped “HAND FORGED”. It has a closed length of 4 1/8 inches, non-integral liners and bolsters, and stag horn scales.

Condition: Excellent, with some minor staining on the blade

No issues good snap  bakealite body 1940s -50s

Very nice saynor budding knife.
smooth in hand.

All in good working order. Reasonable snap on main blade. Super snappy on smaller blade

in good condition nice pocket knife good feel in hand.

Description: The blade face is clearly stamped “FLAG [C.J. flag] KNIFE” trademark.  The tang is stamped “[C.J. flag] JOHNSON WESTERN WORKS SHEFFIELD”. It’s length closed is 4 5/8 inches. Chequered buffalo horn scales. Hawkbill blade, integral bolsters and liners and a flat steel butt cap. Date: c.1870s – 1880s.

Condition: very good, except for the damage to the scale adjacent to the but cap as shown in the photo. The metal surfaces show staining but no pitting. Has snap open and closes but not super snappy.

The blade face is clearly stamped “FLAG [C.J. flag] KNIFE” trademark.  The tang is stamped “[C.J. flag] JOHNSON WESTERN WORKS”. It’s length closed is 4 1/8 inches. Buffalo horn scales. Hawkbill blade, with integral bolsters and liners and a flat steel butt cap. Date: Given the absence of “Sheffield” in the tang stamping, c.1860s – 1870s is probable.

Condition: very good, the metal surfaces show staining but no pitting

The blade face is stamped I*XL and the mark side tang is stamped “GEORGE WOSTENHOLM SHEFFIELD ENGLAND”. It has a closed length of 4 3/8 inches, with integral iron liners, bolsters, and scales.

Description: The blade face is stamped “WADE WINGFIELD & ROWBOTHAM” and the tang is stamped “82 TENTER St SHEFFIELD”. It has a closed length of 4 ¼ inches, integral liners and bolsters, a steel butt cap, and staghorn scales. It appears likely that the date of the knife is c.1850. Firm snap.

The face of the blade is stamped “SUTTON & SONS” which is assumed to be the name of a retailer. The mark side tang is stamped with the key mark (which Butler acquired in c.1882) over “BUTLER & Co”, and the pile side tang has the ART mark (that Butler acquired in 1861)

Has snap. Blade worn.

Henry duke

£250.00

Henry duke

£250.00

The only stamping is “DUKE” on the blade face. It is of solid construction and appears to be designed for heavy work, with a length of 4 inches closed, integral liners and bolsters, and a round butt end associated with a wide butt. It has stag horn scales, and a heavy tapered back spring. Tweedale (2nd edition p. 209) identifies a “Henry Duke” who was active in Sheffield c.1828 – c.1842, and it is probable that he was the maker

The blade face is stamped I*XL and the mark side tang is stamped “GEORGE WOSTENHOLMS I*XL CUTLERY”. It has a closed length of 4 7/8 inches, integral liners and bolsters, and cocoa wood scales. This is a large and heavy pruner, which together with the integral liners and bolsters suggests a dating of 1860s – 1870s.

good snap no issues

is stamped on the mark side tang “[flag logo] JOHNSON WESTERN WORKS”. Given the absence of a place name, and the known date of 1854 when the company was operating in the Western Works, a date range of late 1850s – 1860s is suggested. This is an unusual knife in that the 3 pins securing the wood scales to the liners are copper. It has a length of 4 ¾ inches closed, integral “Barlow” style bolsters and liners and a flat brass butt end. The blade was most likely a hawkbill but could have been a sheepfoot.

Condition: All metal surfaces have staining and minor pitting caused by rust – since removed.

The face of the blade is stamped with the Geo. Wostenholm mark I*XL and the tang is stamped “GEORGE WOSTENHOLM SHEFFIELD ENGLAND over four lines. This knife has separate iron liners and bolsters, ebony wood scales, and has a length of 4 3/8 inches closed.

The blade face is very faintly stamped “SAYNOR”. The mark side tang is stamped “SAYNOR COOKE & RIDAL” and the pile side tang is stamped “OBTAIN”. It is assumed that the timeframe is early 1870s to early 20th century. The length closed is 4 ¼ inches. Scales are stag horn, with round butt end. Integral liners and bolsters. The blade is assumed to originally have been a hawkbill style.
Condition: There is a piece of stag missing from the pile side scale, and a scale pin missing from both sides adjacent to the bolster.

Larger pruner. Nice blade some pitting. Good snap both blades stag scales. 5 inches closed small part missing off scales see photos.

English made say best steel on blade main blade heavy stag scales. Blade functioning is fine lost some of the snap but not a enough to ruin knife.
1850s. 4.5 inches.

Wostenholm pruner decent snap. Nice blade. Stag scales flat bottom. 1880s. 4.45 inches closed.

Description: The blade and tang stamping is identical to the above two knives, being: “TURNER & COMPANYS PRUNING KNIFE” and “MADE EXPRESSLY FOR AMERICA”. The mark side tang has a curved cartouche containing the words “WARRANTED REALLY GOOD”. The handle differs to the above two knives in that it has different bolsters. The assumed date of manufacture is “1820s – 1830s”.

Condition: The blade has staining and pitting on both sides Good snap and almost full blade.

“[key trademark]” over faint “GEORGE BUTLER & Co.” on the blade face, and “[ART]” over “SHEFFIELD” trademark on the mark side tang, 4 5/8 inches closed length, blade probably originally a sheepfoot. Integral bolsters and liners. Date: c.mid-1880s – 1890s.

Good snap. Blade shows signs of sharpening some pitting. Pressed stag scales. 4 inches closed.
The blade face should be stamped “FLAG [C.J. flag] KNIFE”.  The tang is stamped “[C.J. flag] JOHNSON WESTERN WORKS SHEFFIELD”. It’s length closed is 4 inches. The scales appear to be pressed stag or similar composite material. Hawkbill blade, with round butt end to the handle. Integral bolsters and liners. The “FLAG [C.J.] KNIFE” trademark is no longer visible on the blade face. Date: c.1870s – 1880s. The blade shape was originally hawkbill.

The face of the blade is stamped with the Geo. Wostenholm mark I*XL and the tang is stamped “GEORGE WOSTENHOLM SHEFFIELD ENGLAND over four lines. This knife has separate iron liners and bolsters, cocoa wood scales, and has a length of 4 ½ inches closed. This knife is illustrated in Wostenholm’s 1885 catalogue as pattern 169.

Remnants of the “FLAG [C.J.] KNIFE” trademark are only slightly visible on the blade face. Date: c.1870s – 1880s. The blade shape was originally hawkbill.
